Susanne Cerha
Multidisciplinary Creative Director • Brand • Digital • Hospitality • Spatial & Experiential Design
Susanne Cerha is a multidisciplinary creative director and designer whose work spans branding, digital design, hospitality, visual storytelling, and experiential environments. Originally from Sweden and based in New York, she is the founder of Silo Design New York, a creative practice focused on building emotionally resonant identities, digital platforms, and aesthetic experiences across both physical and digital spaces.
Her foundation in typography and visual communication began long before her career in New York. In Sweden, Susanne studied calligraphy under Lars Laurentii, creator of the iconic Swedish wellness brand Friskis & Svettis, before continuing her training in traditional typesetting and graphic production at the School of the Graphic Industry in Stockholm. By the time she arrived at the School of Visual Arts in New York, her typographic training was already so advanced that she was permitted to bypass typography coursework and instead assist and mentor fellow students. She later graduated in the top 5% of her class, receiving the Silas S. Rhodes Gold Medal of Excellence, as well as full academic scholarships during her junior and senior years.
Susanne later spent nearly a decade at Sony Music Entertainment, where she served as Associate Design Director and designed more than 450 album releases for internationally recognized artists including Miles Davis, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Gloria Estefan, Jeff Buckley, Janis Joplin, and Jon Secada. This formative period established a foundation in typography, visual narrative, cultural branding, and large-scale creative production that continues to inform her work today.
Over the years, Susanne’s work has received recognition from organizations including The Webby Awards, ALEX Awards, and the Telly Awards, and has been featured in publications, exhibitions, and design annuals internationally. Her typography and visual work have appeared in books and publications exploring contemporary graphic design and type as artistic expression.
Beyond commercial design, Susanne’s practice has gradually evolved toward a broader exploration of atmosphere, storytelling, hospitality, and environmental aesthetics. Through projects such as Catskill River Cottage and Gardens by Silo, she extends her creative direction into interior styling, guest experience, garden planning, ecological aesthetics, and experiential design – creating spaces and environments that feel intentional, immersive, and deeply connected to place.
She has also shared her work and perspective as a guest speaker and visiting lecturer, including appearances at the Sweden America Chamber of Commerce in New York and AHO School of Architecture in Oslo, Norway, where she lectured on design, typography, and interactive media.
Today, Susanne’s work sits at the intersection of visual identity, spatial experience, hospitality, and emotional storytelling – informed by a lifelong interest in typography, culture, nature, atmosphere, and the relationship between people and the environments they inhabit.
